Episode 8: Dr. Amelia Pappas – Pregnancy with Pelvic Pain

Low back pain is a common complaint during pregnancy.  Dr. Amelia Pappas, a mother of two has a special interest in obstetrical back pain.  In this episode, Dr. Pappas shares with us her success using a unique treatment for a women in her third trimester of pregnancy with back and pelvic pain.  Dr. Pappas practices at the Melbourne Spine Clinic and also in Malvern, Australia.

Dr. Pappas began practice at the end of 2009.  Her areas of special interest include obstetrical back pain, paediatric care and disc lesion reduction/decompression using flexion-distraction therapy.

In March 2010, she commenced Cox® Technic flexion-distraction certification and became fully certified in November 2012.  Dr. Pappas has a special interest in educating patients to manage and relieve neck and back pain and runs stretch class and back classes.

Dr. Pappas is currently on maternity leave with her second baby.  Becoming a mother of 2 has enhanced her interest in pre and post-natal spinal pain and motivated further research into the application of Cox® Technic flexion- distraction therapy to treat these conditions.

Episode 7: Dr. Marc Baker – Pregnancy with low back pain

On this episode Dr. Marc Baker from Nova Scotia Canada, shares how he successfully treated a woman in her third trimester of pregnancy with lower back pain.  Dr. Marc Baker is a 2002 graduate of New York Chiropractic College. He was also granted post-doctoral Fellow status of the Chiropractic College of Physical and Occupational Rehabilitation in 2005. In 2005 he joined a multidisciplinary private practice as well as becoming the staff Chiropractor for the Canadian Forces at the CFB Stadacona Hospital. In 2007, he became certified in Cox® Technic and has maintained active certification since. The No-Crack approach was a good fit for Dr. Baker and he has had excellent results. After his tenure with the Canadian Forces, in 2011 he opened the first Disc Clinic in Musquodoboit Harbour, about ½ hour outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. In the spring of 2015 he opened a second Disc Clinic serving the greater Halifax area, in Dartmouth Nova Scotia. The Disc Clinic now offers Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Certified Pedorthist Services and Reflexology. Currently he is the clinic director at both offices, as well as the Chiropractic Services Director. Given his strong belief and passion for the Cox® Technic, he became a hands-on instructor and has taught workshops for Chiropractors from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec, Canada.

Episode 6: Dr. Jim Brandt – Neck and Ear Pain

On this episode, Dr. Jim Brandt will be sharing with us two very interesting patient stories.  Dr. Jim Brandt began practice in October 1969 with two other doctors.  He began his private practice in 1970.  He obtained his Diplomate in Chiropractic Orthopedics in 1980.  He has served on the Chiropractic Orthopedic Examination Board from 1987 to present.  Currently, he is the President of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists. He received his Masters degree in Biomechanical Trauma from Lynn University in 1994.  His son Ryan joined the practice 2000.  Dr. Brandt has lectured locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.  He was presented with the Examiner Emeritus award that has been given to only three other chiropractic orthopedists since the Boards inception in the 1960’s.  He has studied with Dr. James M. Cox since the 1970’s and he and Dr. Ryan Brandt are certified Cox® Technic flexion-distraction practitioners.  Dr. Brandt has been married since 1968 and has two grown children and five grandchildren.

Episode 4: Dr. Dean Greenwood – Synovial Cyst

Dr. Greenwood is a founding partner of the Vancouver Spine Care Centre in beautiful downtown Vancouver, BC.  He is a1981 graduate of the Palmer College of Chiropractic, a board certified Chiropractic Orthopedist, a member of the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences and a certified Cox® Technic practitioner.  He just completed his Masters of Advanced Clinical Practice program at National University of Health Sciences.  Dr. Greenwood’s practice specializes in the non-surgical management of herniated disc, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, and degenerative disc disease. He discusses a case of a synovial cyst causing low back pain as well as loss of muscle mass in the thigh of an active woman named Lana.

Following her treatments Lana states,

Episode 3: Dr. Ted Siciliano – Disc Extrusion

Dr. Ted Siciliano has been in active practice for 35 years in the Manahawkin, NJ area.  Dr. Siciliano is a long-time certified Cox® Technic practitioner who attends courses regularly to keep up on all the latest in research, biomechanics, and application of Cox Technic protocols. He has written several case reports for the monthly Cox® Technic Case Report publication and shares cases at Cox Seminars on a regular basis. He conducts practical, hands-on workshops with his colleaguesat his Mayetta, New Jersey office.

Dr. Siciliano shares a case of33 year-old weight-lifter with a disc extrusion and another case of woman with neck and arm pain who had multiple levels of disc involvement.  Both cases would have likely went to surgery if not for Dr. Siciliano’s treatment with Cox® Technic.

Episode 2: Dr. Kurt Olding – Stenosis

Dr. Kurt Olding is a certified Cox® Technic practitioner and assistant instructor for Cox® Technic Seminars.  He has been treating spine conditions for over 30 years.  He is in private practice in Minster, Ohio with his daughter and son-in-law.

On this episode, Dr. Olding shares a story of a 74 year-old farm wife with back pain as a result of spinal stenosis.  Dr. Olding co-authored a recently published research paper that he also shares with us.

Episode 1: Dr. Michael Johnson – Vulvodynia

I’m your host Dr. Michael Johnson.  I invite you to listen to this first episode of The Back Doctors Podcast.  I this episode I’ll be sharing with you a patient story from my own practice.  It involves a patient with an acute exacerbation of lower back pain that had been preceded by three years of chronic back pain as well as pelvic pain.

If future episodes I’ll be interviewing doctors who treat spine related conditions that cause neck and back pain and other related symptoms.  The purpose of these podcasts is for you to find hope from these inspirational stories told by devoted doctors who care for patients just like you.
